Milorganite is the go to lawn fertilizer, especially for newbies. It’s slow release and “sorta organic”. They had to change the label because it’s not USDA organic, but it’s essentially a fertilizer that organically breaks down.
The reason for it’s popularity is it’s near impossible to mess up. You can over apply it and everything is OK because it won’t burn your lawn. This gives many newer lawn enthusiasts the courage to get started. It also has Iron which gives the lawn a deep green color.
